SIR JOHN HEATHCOAT AMORYasked the Postmaster General, Whether his attention has been called to the defective state of the apparatus at Tiverton Junction for receiving letters from the mail train on the Great Western Railway, and the serious injury to letters consequent thereon—the mail bag having been damaged on the morning of the 5th of this month, and this being the third or fourth time a similar accident has occurred; and, whether any, and, if so, what remedy he proposes for the prevention of similar accidents for the future?
§ LORD JOHN MANNERS, in reply, said, that in order to prevent the damage referred to in the Question, the speed of the train would in future be considerably slackened as it approached the station, and other precautions would be taken.
