§ MR. FAYasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to act on the recommendation of the Commissioners of National Education in Ireland, by granting retiring pensions to the head teachers of Irish Model Schools?
§ SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACHNo, Sir, the Government have not felt themselves able to comply with the recommendation of the Commissioners in favour of this particular class of National School teachers. The whole 198 question of pensions is now under the consideration of the Government, and in accordance with the promise given to the hon. and learned Member for Kildare (Mr. Meldon), the matter will receive our best consideration.
