HC Deb 21 June 1877 vol 235 cc91-2
SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

asked the Chairman of the Metropolitan Board of Works, On what day he proposed to proceed with the Thames River (Prevention of Floods) Bill?

SIR JAMES M'GAREL-HOGG,

in reply, said, that the best answer he could give the hon. Baronet was to read a resolution adopted by the Metropolitan Board of Works on this subject. That resolution was to the effect that the Bill had been rendered so essentially different from that which had been presented to the House by the resolution of the Select Committee, that in their opinion the expenses under it should be paid out of a rate to be levied over the whole Metropolitan area, that the Board did not feel justified in proceeding further with it during the present Session.
