HC Deb 31 July 1877 vol 236 c226
SIR JOHN HAY

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, Whether, looking to the present condition of the List of Assistant Paymasters, and the almost total cessation of promotion, he can hold out any hope that the Admiralty will consider during the Recess whether any remedy can be devised for this growing evil?

MR. A. F. EGERTON,

in reply, admitted that the grievance of which the Assistant Paymasters in the Navy complained was a real and not an imaginary one. The subject had been under the consideration of the Admiralty, and he hoped shortly to be able to announce that they had taken steps to remedy the evil.
