§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER, in reply, said, the House was aware that his right hon. Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty promised that a due opportunity for discussion should be given before the Vote for the purchase of the site was proposed, and the Government had hoped that his right hon. Friend would have been able to propose it himself and to take part in the discussion. But, unfortunately, it was not likely that his right hon. Friend would be able to do so for some little time; and as at this period of the Session it might be inconvenient to bring on the question, his right hon. Friend had 13 agreed to postpone the Vote, and not to bring it forward during the present Session. It might, however, be brought forward as a Supplementary Estimate next year.
