HC Deb 26 July 1877 vol 235 c1854
MR. SERJEANT SIMON

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether the scale of the special allowances to the officers and men serving in the late campaign in the Malay Peninsula has been fixed, and at what rate, and for what period of service; and, whether he can say how soon the allowances in question will be paid?

MR. GATHORNE HARDY

, in reply, said, the delay was owing to the fact that Indian as well as English troops were engaged, and the War Office and the India Office had different rates of allowance; but he had sent a letter to the Treasury, asking its sanction to special allowances to these troops, and as soon as that sanction was obtained the allowance would be paid.
