HC Deb 24 July 1877 vol 235 cc1738-9
MR. FAWCETT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he can now inform the House whether the present inquiry into Christ's Hospital will be extended to the school where the junior boys are educated at Hertford?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

The gentlemen who at great personal inconvenience have been good enough to undertake the duty of inquiring into the recent lamentable circumstance at Christ's Hospital are now engaged on it. I could not ask them to go into a general inquiry into Hertford School at the same time; but I believe that so far as an inquiry into Hertford School is necessary for the immediate purpose of the inquiry they are willing, and I believe they have gone into the subject. If it should appear necessary that a further investigation should take place into Hertford School, I shall be happy for them or others to take up the inquiry as soon as the Recess begins.
