§ DR. C. CAMERONasked the Under Secretary for the Colonies, Whether it is true, as stated in the "Times" of Tuesday last, that all, or all but one, of the Fenian prisoners undergoing sentence in Western Australia made good their escape from that colony on Easter Monday in an American whaler?
§ MR. J. LOWTHERThe report, Sir, to which the hon. Gentleman refers is substantially correct. I may state for the information of the House that there were in all 10 military convicts in Western Australia. Of these, two were out on ticket of leave, leaving eight in prison; and of those six have effected their escape. I do not know whether the hon. Gentleman wishes to know the names of the persons who have escaped. ["Yes, yes!"] They are Robert Cranston, Thomas Darragh, James Wilson, Michael Harrington, Thomas Hassett, and Martin Hogan.
