§ MR. J. LOWTHERSir, the attention of Her Majesty's Government has been drawn to the matter, and I am bound to say that, having read it, in my opinion, the language of the Petition hardly appears to be such as need have precluded its reception by the Lieutenant Governor, who, it is only right I should add, acted under the advice of his Council in the course he adopted. After considering the grievances alleged, the Secretary of State does not think that any extensive alterations of the existing fiscal system are practicable; but the whole question of the finance of the colony in question will continue to receive our careful attention.
