§ MR. J. R. YORKEasked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether, seeing that the various Government Departments have contributed by their exhibits to the Brussels International Exhibition, and have arranged for the visits of special Commissioners to report upon the Exhibition, in order to avail themselves thereby of its advantages, it is still the intention of Her Majesty's Government to throw upon private individuals the cost of the Government exhibits?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER, in reply, said, the Exhibition had been entirely of a voluntary character; no grant had been given towards it even by the Belgian Government; and the British Government did not think it desirable to break through the rule which they had made not to grant any public money for the purpose referred to.
