§ MR. M'LARENI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department a Question of which I have given him private Notice. He was understood to say the other night that the Ecclesiastical Assessments Bill would be proceeded with to-night, and I now wish to ask whether it is the intention of the Government to proceed with the Bill this Session?
MR. ASSHETON CROSSI regret very much that my answer the other night was misunderstood. What I meant to say, and what I believe I did say, was that I should be prepared to-night to state what the Government intended to do as regarded that Bill; and I may now say that, as I see no chance of the Bill passing this Session, I think it will be better to withdraw it.
