HC Deb 03 July 1876 vol 230 c858
SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether considering the Second Report of the Civil Service Inquiry Commission, Her Majesty's Government propose to increase the salaries of the Heads of Departments in the British Museum; and, whether they have received any recommendation from the trustees in regard thereto; and, if so, whether any and what answer has been returned by the Treasury?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, the Treasury have received a request from the Trustees of the British Museum to inquire into the position of the officers of that Department, with a view to a revision both of their salaries and of their duties. All I can say on the subject at present is that the recommendations will be considered, and that we hope to be able to make a satisfactory explanation before the next Estimates are prepared.
