asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer Whether he can inform the House whether the Khedive of Egypt paid a commission to agents in Egypt on the sale of the Canal shares to the English Government; and, if so, the amount of the commission?

, in reply, said, he had no information on that subject; but he would be exceedingly surprised if anything of the kind stated in the Question had occurred.
