HC Deb 21 February 1876 vol 227 c554
MR. J. HOLMS

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether it is the intention of the Government to act upon that portion of the Report of the Civil Service Inquiry Commission which relates to the establishment of a higher division of Civil Service Clerks; and, if so, when it is probable that the arrangement for giving effect to it will be made?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, he had stated on a former night that it was not the intention of the Government to issue any such general order as that referred to in the Question; but that they were prepared to deal with the Departments of the Civil Service separately with reference to the subject.
