DUNBARasked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If his attention has been drawn to the penultimate paragraph of the last Report of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue, wherein they state that the scheme of the Civil Service Inquiry Commission is applicable to their Department, and can be carried into effect "with a large saving, even after taking into consideration a very liberal scale of compensation to those retiring from office;" and, whether he proposes to authorize the Commissioners to proceed with the reconstruction of the Department under their control accordingly?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER, in reply, said, he was aware of the opinion expressed by the Inland Revenue Commissioners on the point in question, and the Government was at present in communication with the Board of Inland Revenue on the subject.
