HC Deb 21 February 1876 vol 227 c555
MR. ANDERSON

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, When he intends to move for the re-appointment of the Committee on Banks of Issue?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, a Committee sat last Session on Banks of Issue, and took a great deal of evidence, but there was not time to consider the Report. They therefore reported the evidence to the House, and recommended that they should be re-appointed during the present Session for the purpose of drawing up a Report upon the evidence. He was not at present able to say what course the Government might take with regard to the question whether they should recommend a re-appointment or not. He hoped, in a short time, to be able to give an answer.
