HC Deb 04 April 1876 vol 228 c1180
LORD ROBERT MONTAGU

asked the Postmaster General, Whether he has received a memorial signed by 415 rural Post Office messengers in Ireland; and, whether he has any intention to increase their pay to more than ten shillings per week?

LORD JOHN MANNERS

No, Sir, I have received no memorial whatever on the subject to which the Question of the noble Lord refers. There is no fixed rule as to the wages of the rural post messengers in Ireland. The pay in their case is regulated by the amount and value of the work done.
