§ MR. BAILLIE COCHRANEasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether it is true that the formation of the judicial tribunals in Egypt has been again postponed in consequence of difficulties having arisen between the Turkish and Greek Governments as to the control which the Government of the Porte claims to exercise over the appointment of the Greek judges to serve on these tribunals?
§ MR. BOURKE, in reply, said, Her Majesty's Government had received no information of the kind alluded to in the Question of the hon. Member, and therefore they did not believe that any difficulties had arisen as suggested. On the contrary, they had reason to believe that the Greek Government had nominated two gentlemen to be appointed by the Khédive. In reply to a further Question the hon. Gentleman said, it was quite impossible for Her Majesty's Government to know what might be the exact opinion of the Egyptian Government upon the subject; and as the matter did not rest with them he could not give his hon. Friend any further information.
