§ MR. J. HOLMSasked the Postmaster General, If he is aware that the Returns issued at the instance of the Revenue authorities, and for assessment purposes, are not allowed to pass for a halfpenny stamp, but are charged letter postage; and, if so, will he give instructions to discontinue it?
§ LORD JOHN MANNERS, in reply, said, one or two instances of the hind referred to by the hon. Member had had been brought to his notice, in which the Assessment Returns were improperly charged with letter postage. He had no doubt they were entitled to pass for a halfpenny postage. He would take care, now that he had received information from the hon. Member, that instructions should be given to prevent a recurrence of the inconvenience.
