HC Deb 02 March 1875 vol 222 c1048
MR. O'SULLIVAN

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, What steps have been taken to put a stop to the adulteration of Irish whiskey in Her Majesty's Custom Houses, in conformity with his promise to the House on the 26th June 1874?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER,

in reply, said, he had made no such promise. As to the subject of the Question, it was impossible to do more than was done now in the Custom House to distinguish pure whiskey from whiskey that was mixed. The present system of branding showed whether whiskey had been manufactured at one distillery or at different distilleries, and this practice was to be extended throughout the United Kingdom.
