HC Deb 18 June 1875 vol 225 c221

Order for Second Reading read.

SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH

, in moving that the Bill be now read a second time, said, its object was to carry into effect the unanimous recommendation of a Committee which carefully inquired into the subject last Session. The Pharmaceutical Society of London objected, however, to the 18th clause, which enacted reciprocity between the Irish and English societies with regard to the granting of legal qualifications to chemists; and he intended at the next stage of the Bill to withdraw the clause.

DR. WARD

objected to the omission of the clause, because it would tend to increase the number of institutions which could confer legal qualifications.

MR. NEWDEGATE

, on the part of the Pharmaceutical Society, thanked his right hon. Friend for proposing to omit the clause in question.

Motion agreed to.

Bill read a second time, and committed for Monday next.
