§ MR. WHITWELL (for Mr. M'CARTHY DOWNING)asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether it is the intention of Her 509 Majesty's Government to introduce, early in the next Session, a Bill to improve the condition of the Dwellings of the Labouring Population in Ireland?
§ SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH,in reply, said, that, looking at the improvements which had taken place in these dwellings under the present law, it was not his intention to introduce a Bill next Session for the purpose contemplated in the Question, especially as he had seen no proposal for legislation which appeared to him likely to produce any very beneficial result.
