HC Deb 19 May 1874 vol 219 cc478-9
MR. O'SULLIVAN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, How many Towns in Ireland have been placed under the I provisions of the Towns Improvement Act, 1854; and how many of the Chairmen of the Town Commissioners in those towns hold the commission of the peace?

SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH

Sir, 76 towns are under the provisions of the Towns Improvement Act, 1854. It is difficult to ascertain how many Chairmen of the commissioners in those towns hold the commission of the peace, but as far as I have ascertained they amount to 21.
