HC Deb 23 March 1874 vol 218 c231
SIR JAMES LAWRENCE

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchquer, If it is the intention of the Government to take into consideration the Report of the Select Committee on the Civil Service Writers dated 30th July 1873?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, he had had so many things to attend to that he had not yet been able to give his attention as fully as he could wish to that subject; but the Government were paying attention not only to that question, but to other questions affecting the Civil Service, and they hoped to institute an inquiry under the directions of the Treasury which would go into that subject, and also into other cognate questions of equal importance to the Civil Service.
