HC Deb 18 June 1874 vol 220 c72
MR. C. E. LEWIS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Whether the Petition of Clerks in the Statistical Department of Her Majesty's Customs, presented some months ago to the Lords of the Treasury, has been referred to the Commission of Inquiry into the Civil Service; and, if not, whether there is any objection to such a course?

MR. W. H. SMITH

, in reply, said, it was not thought desirable to refer the Petition in question to the Civil Service Inquiry Commission, as it related to cases of individual hardship, the Committee having been appointed to consider the organization of the service rather than such cases of hardship.
