§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER,in reply, said, the subject had been under the consideration of the Board of Inland Revenue, and they had recommended that the Assessors in Scotland should be allowed such an addition to their statutory poundage in 1874–5 as would make their emoluments equal to the amount of poundage in 1872–3, when 1260 the income tax was at 4d. in the pound, and the Government had intimated that they thought that arrangement would be satisfactory.
