HC Deb 09 May 1873 vol 215 cc1770-1
COLONEL TAYLOR

said, it would be convenient to the House, If the right hon. Gentleman the First Lord of the Treasury would previous to going into Committee of Supply, state when the Notice of Motion which had been given by the noble Lord the Chief Secretary for Ireland was intended to be brought forward?

MR. GLADSTONE

My noble Friend gave that Notice on Monday, with the view that a Committee should be appointed for the purpose of examining the facts of the case, and thus enabling the House to pronounce a right judgment on it; but if there is a disposition to discuss the Motion for the appointment of a Committee, the discussion could not conveniently come on on Monday, as arrangements are already made for that clay. I think the best course will be that the Motion should be taken the first thing on Thursday, and with the view of its being brought on on Thursday I will move the postponement of the Orders for that Day.

Main Question, "That Mr. Speaker do now leave the Chair," put, and agreed to.
