HC Deb 09 May 1873 vol 215 cc1712-3
MR. FLOYER

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether any and what communications have been received from Her Majesty's Consuls at Rio Janeiro upon the condition and prospects of the working men and their families who upon various representations have lately emigrated from this Country to Brazil?

VISCOUNT ENFIELD:

Communications, Sir, have been received at the Foreign Office from members of Her Majesty's Legation at Rio Janeiro upon the condition and prospects of emigrants to Brazil; and it is at present under consideration as to what portions of those communications should be made public, due regard being had to the interests of the British public and the Brazilian Government. Of course, whatever portion is made public, will, in the usual way, be presented to the House. Under these circumstances, I cannot reply more explicitly to the Question just addressed to me by the hon. Member for Dorsetshire.
