§ MR. MONKasked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether his attention has been drawn to a passage in the Report from Mr. W. G. Anderson, the Auditor to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, dated 26th February 1873, in which he raises questions as to the authority under which certain payments charged in the accounts for salaries and allowances have been made; and, whether the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury have come to any decision upon those questions, which have been referred to them by the Auditor?
MR. GLADSTONE,in reply, said, that the Treasury were of opinion that the Auditor was correct, and that the payments had been made, of course through inadvertence, in an irregular manner, not in accordance with the intentions of the Act of Parliament. The Treasury had communicated their views on the subject to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, but had not yet received any reply.
