HC Deb 23 June 1873 vol 216 c1249
VISCOUNT SANDON

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether any progress is being made in the settlement of the claims of British subjects upon the Brazilian Government.

VISCOUNT ENFIELD

Sir, the latest Reports from Rio do not, I regret to say, hold out very favourable prospects of an early settlement of the claims of British subjects upon the Brazilian Government. By the last mail, Mr. Mathew, Her Majesty's Representative at Rio, has been instructed to continue to press for a speedy settlement of these claims.
