HC Deb 13 February 1873 vol 214 c368
THE O'CONOR DON

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce during the present Session any measure dealing with the navigation and improvement of the River Shannon, and for affording facilities for the drainage of the adjacent lands?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER,

in reply, said, any measure affecting the navigation and improvement of the Shannon must necessarily throw a heavy charge upon the riparian proprietors. He should wish to defer any statement as to the intentions of the Government on this subject until he had heard the opinions of Irish Members in the debate to be raised by an hon. Member (Mr. Mitchell Henry) on a future day.
