asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether it is his intention to reduce, and, if so, to what extent, the service of Regiments in India?

MR. CARDWELL,

in reply, said, that when short service in the ranks was adopted, it was arranged that the length of service in India for the headquarters of a regiment should be 12 years, and that it was not intended to disturb that arrangement.
