HC Deb 25 March 1872 vol 210 cc591-2
COLONEL BERESFORD

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the official Establishment of the Ecclesiastical Commission has been reorganized, and brought under the operation of the Treasury Minute of December 8th, 1869, and the Order in Council of June 4th, 1870; and, if so, what remedy it is intended to apply to the oases of those clerks who have in consequence thereof been placed on what is termed the "Redundant List?"

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, the office of the Ecclesiastical Commission is in a state of reorganization. I am not able to say how far that reorganization has gone, nor whether any hardship is inflicted upon clerks who are placed on the Redundant List. The truth is, that the office is not, properly speaking a Government office, and for the information he requires, I must refer the hon. Gentleman to my right hon. Friend the junior Member for the University of Oxford (Mr. Mowbray).
