HC Deb 15 July 1872 vol 212 c1138
MR. EYKYN

asked Mr. Attorney General, Whether he is able to state that Her Majesty's Government intend to carry to trial the indictments found by the grand jury at the Old Bailey against the claimant to the Tichborne estates?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL

explained that, although as the organ of the Government, it had been necessary that he should take certain formal steps in the matter, he had not the conduct of, and he did not interfere with the prosecution, which was in the hands of Mr. Hawkins. It had become a Home Office prosecution; and, as far as he knew and believed, the Home Secretary and the Solicitor to the Treasury did not intend to desist from the prosecution.
