PIMasked Mr. Attorney General for Ireland, Whether his attention has been directed to the custody of the Parochial Registers of Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials which were kept by the Clergy of the late Established Church in Ireland; and, whether it is the intention of the Government, now that the connection of that Church with the State has ceased, to take any and what steps to provide for the future guardianship of these important records?
§ THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. DOWSE), in reply, said, that the matter was under the consideration of the Government, and he hoped that in a short time some conclusion would be arrived at. He must, however, 206 add that the matter was one of very considerable difficulty. He would be glad privately to give the hon. Member any information he possessed on the subject.
