HC Deb 26 April 1872 vol 210 c1883
MR. LIDDELL

asked the First Commissioners of Works, Whether his attention has been directed to the injury being done by the fumes of the lamps now placed in "St. Stephen's Chapel" to the tracery, the ornamental work, and the painted glass contiguous; and, whether he will take steps to check the further progress of the injury?

MR. AYRTON

said, his attention had been directed to the subject, and he had been under the impression that the lamps had been removed, but they were still there. He thought it desirable that they should be removed altogether; but he was bound to state that the damage done was not of a permanent character, and that it could be easily washed off.
