HC Deb 22 April 1872 vol 210 c1632
LORD ELCHO

said, that as many members of the Volunteer Force were engaged in business, it was desirable that they should have time to make their arrangements for taking part in the Autumn Manœuvres, and he wished to ask the right hon. Gentleman opposite, When and where those manœuvres were to take place?

MR. CARDWELL

said, he believed it might be considered fixed that Salisbury Plain was the site of the manœuvres. A portion of the forces of Ireland and Scotland, as well as of England, would be invited to take part in the proceedings, and the day appointed was the 31st of August.
