HC Deb 22 April 1872 vol 210 c1630
MR. R. W. DUFF

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government, during the present Session, to introduce a Bill for the modification of the Law of Entail in Scotland?

MR. GLADSTONE

Sir, in giving an answer I must draw a distinction. I am not able now to give an assurance that the Government will introduce a Bill dealing generally with the principle of the law of entail, although they would desire to do so if they could; but with regard to the practical improvement of the law of entail, my right hon. and learned Friend the Lord Advocate hopes to be able to introduce, and, perhaps, to carry without difficulty, a measure dealing with it.
