asked the Chief Commissioner of Works, When it is intended to pull down the unoccupied houses in Abingdon Street, which have been purchased by the Office of Works under the powers of the Act 30 and 31 Vict. c. 40; and, whether it is his intention to carry out the works authorized by that Act for the security of the Houses of Parliament?

MR. AYRTON

said, he was not aware that it was necessary to carry out any works for the security of the Houses of Parliament; but with regard to the first Question, the Treasury had ordered the houses to be pulled down, and that order would shortly be carried out.
