HC Deb 23 March 1871 vol 205 c462
MR. M. T. BASS

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether he has received a report of a collision which is said to have taken place at Burton-on-Trent last Friday, in consequence of a goods train having run through the Burton station at high speed into another goods train, in which fourteen trucks were smashed or broken up; and, whether it is true that the driver and stoker have reported themselves to have been asleep when this happened, having had only five hours' rest between Wednesday at 1 45 p.m. till Friday at 1 a.m., when the accident occurred; or whether he knows if there be a shadow of foundation for this report?

MR. A. PEEL

replied that the Board of Trade had received no information on the subject.
