HC Deb 09 March 1871 vol 204 c1672
MR. M'MAHON

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether the Select Committee to inquire into the state of Westmeath, and certain parts adjoining of Meath and King's County, and the nature, extent, and effect of a certain unlawful combination and conspiracy existing therein, will be authorized to inquire into the causes thereof?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON I

beg to remind the hon. Gentleman that the Order in reference to this Committee has been decided by the House, after full discussion, and I do not think it would be proper on my part to give any further interpretation of it. I will only say that it is not the intention of the Government to propose any alteration in it.
