HC Deb 22 June 1871 vol 207 cc397-8
MR. HOLMS

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether it be true, as stated in the public journals, that an enclosure of thirty acres of Epping Forest has been made at Wanstead Flats during the past week by the representatives of Earl Cowley; and, if so, whether the Government intend to institute proceedings in the matter?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, there had been an inclosure of some rough land at Wanstead Flats by the Lord of the Manor (Earl Cowley). It was inclosed by a fence, which did not offer any obstruction to the feeding of deer, supposing there were any deer to be fed there. It was not his intention to involve the public in any litigation on the subject.
