§ VISCOUNT ENFIELDBefore making any proposal to the Brazilian Government for the settlement of claims of British and Brazilian subjects, it was necessary to arrive at as accurate an estimate as possible of the amount at which the Brazilian claims could be set. This was a work of considerable labour, and was kindly undertaken by a gentleman peculiarly conversant with the questions at issue. The result of his inquiry is now before the Secretary of State, and it is hoped that instructions may shortly be sent to Brazil on this subject.
