HC Deb 20 April 1871 vol 205 c1386
MR. RYLANDS

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If Her Majesty's Government have received from the Chancellor of the German Empire any intimation of the wish of his Government that the position of the British Representative at Berlin should be changed at the next vacancy from the rank of Ambassador to that of Minister Plenipotentiary; and, if so, what steps Her Majesty's Government intend to take in consequence of such intimation?

VISCOUNT ENFIELD

Sir, it will not be necessary for me to answer the latter portion of the hon. Gentleman's Question, when I tell him that Her Majesty's Government have received no intimation from the Chancellor of the German Empire on the matter to which the earlier part of his Question alludes.
