HC Deb 18 March 1870 vol 200 cc207-8
MR. PEMBERTON

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, Whether, having regard to the delay that must occur before any new Commissions can be given to Cornets or Ensigns, the present limit as to the age of candidates will be extended, either with reference to gentlemen who have passed their examination, or to those whose names have already been placed on the list of the Field Marshal Commanding-in-Chief?

MR. CARDWELL

With respect, Sir, to those gentlemen who have already passed, they will not be disqualified by age, but will receive commissions as vacancies occur. With respect to those who have reported themselves ready for examination, some new regulations will be necessary. These new regulations are under consideration, and will shortly be published. It is intended, however, to hold an examination in the course of the summer.
