HC Deb 08 March 1870 vol 199 c1482
COLONEL TAYLOR

said, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether he has received a Letter from the Foreman of the Grand Jury of the county of Meath, dated the 28th February; and, if so, whether the Government intend to act upon the suggestions contained therein; and, whether he has any objection to place a Copy of the Letter in question, and his Answer to it, upon the Table of the House?

MR. CHICHESTER FORTESCUE

In reply, Sir, to the Question of the hon. and gallant Member, I have to state that I have received a letter from the foreman of the Grand Jury of the county of Meath, which I have answered. My answer was only an assurance that the representations of the Grand Jury had received, and were receiving, the anxious and careful consideration of Her Majesty's Government. Of course I shall be glad, if it is desired, to place both the letter and the answer upon the table of the House. I can only say that it would be inconvenient to make a partial statement upon a subject which is to be fully gone into on an carry day.
