HC Deb 30 June 1870 vol 202 c1208
MR. MAGUIRE

said, he would beg to ask the hon. Member for the City of London, If it be true that up to the present time the Irish Society have not even commenced the construction of the landing pier at Culmore near Derry, which in April 1869 he stated was then being erected by the Society; and, if it has not been as yet commenced, could he state when it would be commenced?

MR. ALDERMAN W. LAWRENCE

said, in reply, that he had received information from the Irish Society to the effect that they had received plans for a new pier at Culmore, and that they had obtained tenders for the erection of the works. But it had been represented to them by the lessees of the salmon fishery, that the construction of the pier in the manner proposed would seriously injure their fishing station. A new site had since been suggested, and the matter was under consideration.
