POLLARD-URQUHARTsaid, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether the Government have taken, or are about to take, any steps for the purpose of preserving such of the records, deeds, and documents now in the Irish Diocesan Registries as may not, in conformity with Clause 47 of the Irish Church Act of last Session, be transferred to the Church Temporalities Commissioners?
§ MR. CHICHESTER FORTESCUEsaid, in reply, that the Question of the hon. Member was one of considerable interest, and it had received, and would continue to receive, every attention from the Irish Government. His hon. Friend knew there was one large and important class of documents—those connected with the Church properly—which would be transferred along with the Church property to the Church Temporalities Commissioners. Another large and important class would be transferred to the new Court of Matrimonial Jurisdiction. There was a residue of documents of various kinds on which he was not able to speak authoritatively; but the question of their disposal deserved, and would receive the careful consideration of the Government.
