GRAVESsaid, he wished to ask the Secretary to the Board of Trade, If his attention has been called to the numerous shipwrecks which have from time to time occurred on the Röcas Shoals, and whether it is the intention of the Board of Trade to cause any representations to be made to the Government of His Majesty the Emperor of the Brazils as to the desirability of lighting or otherwise guarding this dangerous reef?
§ MR. SHAW LEFEVRESir, in consequence of the recent loss of the ship Mercurius on the Röcas Shoals, and the report of her survivors as to the traces of very numerous wrecks there, and looking also to the fact that vessels going round the Cape of Good Hope make a more westerly course than formerly, and approach more nearly to these shoals, the Board of Trade have, through the Foreign Office, made a representation to the Brazilian Government in the hope that a light may be placed on these shoals.
