CAPTAIN GROSVENORsaid, he would beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether, in any allotment of seats resulting from the disfranchisement of certain boroughs, Her Majesty's Government will undertake to consider the claim of the Metropolitan Constituencies to additional representation?
MR. GLADSTONEreplied, that it would undoubtedly be the duty of the Government to consider the claims of the metropolitan constituencies to additional representation in conjunction with those of other portions of the country; whenever, in consequence of the disfranchisement of boroughs, it might be of public interest to have the matter settled; but, in the judgment of the Government, that time had not yet arrived.
